HYBRID PUBLISHING

What is a hybrid publishing model?

Hybrid publishing refers to the availability of books in both print and digital formats. For The Artist Book Foundation (TABF), operating on a hybrid publishing model means we publish, sell, and donate our currently in-stock print titles; we digitize and offer all of our current and backlist titles in a digital format; and we make all future publications available in both print and digital versions.

The digital version of our titles has the same layout and resolution as its print counterpart. The digital pages you’ll read are identical to those from which the physical edition was initially printed, thus offering an uncompromised reading experience.

Why is hybrid publishing important?

Publishing and preserving the legacies of artists while promoting greater access to the arts and culture is key to TABF’s mission. By bringing hybrid publishing to art books, we are underscoring our commitment to making art and culture available to the widest possible audience for both present and future generations. Adding ebooks to our existing print offerings can best serve our readers and the larger art world with scholarly and visually rich documentation of artists’ lives and legacies.

How are TABF’s print and digital formats accessed?

Access to print and digital TABF titles will soon be available to individual readers, students, institutional libraries, public libraries, specialized reference libraries, and databases, as well as through nonprofit organizations for developing countries.

TABF has entered a partnership with the University of Chicago Press’s BiblioVault, an ebook preparator and virtual warehouse for academic books, and EBSCO Information Services, a leading provider of resources for libraries that includes discovery, resource management, databases, and ebooks. This agreement will ensure that our ebooks are distributed to as wide an audience as possible.

Our ebooks are registered with the Library of Congress, are under copyright, and will be available for purchase just like a physical book. Our print and ebook titles will soon be available through our website.
